Long before Revelstoke opened as a ski resort, the area was known primarily for its excellent heli skiing. The New York Times called it “the heli skiing capital of the world,” because the terrain and reliable snow conditions brought some of the very best heli skiing operations to the area. We’re very excited to partner with Selkirk-Tangiers Heli Skiing, a very highly reputed operator which is owned and operated by Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

We have reservations for the Powder Adventure package. To get more of our package details,
visit the Selkirk-Tangiers Heli Skiing site >

Heli skiing / snowboarding is an exhilarating, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We hosted an unforgettable heli skiing trip just two seasons ago.

Revelstoke, British Columbia is one of the world’s newest ski resorts. When it burst onto the ski scene in 2007, skiers and snowboarders immediately took notice. It’s located in interior BC, where abundant snowfall and consistent conditions meet jaw-dropping terrain.

The area was already world-famous for its backcountry, accessible only by helicopter.
The New York Times called it the “heli skiing capital of the world.” But Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s brand new hotels and bottom-to-top high speed chair lifts made it home to North America’s largest vertical drop. The accolades soon followed; the UK’s Telegraph recently called it “the world’s greatest ski resort.”

We’ve designed this trip to take full advantage of this spectacular area. Skiers and riders at the intermediate, advanced and expert-level are invited to join this trip. Experts may add an exhilarating day of hell skiing.
Space on this trip is very limited, and it is now sold out.

We reserve the right to cancel, reschedule, or make changes in the trip itinerary as a result of weather or safety considerations or as otherwise deemed necessary or advisable. If your trip is cancelled or rescheduled due to weather, snow, or mountain conditions, or circumstances beyond our control, you will receive a full credit for a future trip. All trip credits may be applied to any trip in the SKI BUMS future. There is no expiration date.

SKI BUMS is not responsible for the cost of any additional expenses that you may incur as a result of trip rescheduling or cancellation (airline ticketing fees, etc.).

To use a credit for a future deposit or payment, please
contact us directly.
Through September 1, you may cancel your spot at any time and receive a full refund. After September 1, the following cancellation fees apply:

For cancellations received from September 2 - November 1, $500 fee. For cancellations received from November 2 - November 30, $1500 fee. After December 1st, 2015: no refund.

In order to obtain our bulk group discounts, we must agree to a very strict cancellation policy. It's the nature of group travel. Think of your SKI BUMS booking as you would an airline reservation; even we find someone to take your place,
the cancellation fees still apply.

If you buy travel insurance, you can still receive a refund for a cancelled SKI BUMS trip.

To cancel your SKI BUMS trip, click here >
Buy travel insurance. We cannot stress this enough.

A travel insurer can provide a refund even when SKI BUMS cannot. In the circumstance that you need to cancel your trip because of work or health reasons, you should purchase travel insurance within 30 days of your initial trip deposit.

Even if you purchase travel insurance after this date, some coverage is much better than no coverage at all. Our cancellation policy is strict, and after cancellation fees kick in, a travel insurer may be your only chance for a full refund.

There are many travel insurers, and policies are very affordable. We especially recommend
travelinsured.com, and suggest you add the sports package to cover skiing & snowboarding activity.

Your trip includes a 4-out-of-5 day all-access pass for Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Note: Those who join our heli skiing adventure will receive a 3-out-of-4 day lift ticket. If you or your travel partner do not ski or snowboard -- or you've got a lift pass / season pass — we can remove the lift tickets from our package; contact us to make arrangements.
About a month before we travel, all participants will submit a Travel Portfolio, where we'll collect your flight information, dietary restrictions, roommate requests, emergency contact info, skill level, and other pertinent details. We'll email everyone and post the link here when it's time to submit it.
SKI BUMS designs our season for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, but we make specific recommendations for each trip. On ALL SKI BUMS trips, we begin by dividing into skill level groups so you can identify those who enjoy the same terrain that you do.

See how our groups work >

We recommend this trip for solid intermediate to expert skiers & snowboarders.

Have a look at the trail map below; there is very little beginner terrain here. We won’t prevent beginners from signing up, but beginners should plan to enroll in lessons each day, knowing that there will probably be no other beginners within our group of participants.

Intermediate skiers and riders will be thoroughly challenged here; if you have fun on ‘blue’ runs in the American Rockies, you’ll have fun here, too. 45% of the resort’s runs are marked as intermediate. If you’re hoping to take your first trip to ski or snowboard in the West, you may want to consider our trip to Big Sky — one of the best resorts for first-time Western skiers & riders.

Advanced and expert skiers and riders will be in paradise here. You’ve probably already heard what a great destination Revelstoke is; it very rarely disappoints. The in-bounds terrain includes massive bowls, exciting tree runs, super long and steep groomers, mellow groomers, bump runs, and terrain parks. Most of the ski area is below the tree line.

If you would like to discuss whether you and / or your travel partner will enjoy the terrain here,
please contact us before signing up.
Air transportation is not included. Read these recommendations closely before buying airfare.

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is the best airport for those who are traveling to Revelstoke. It offers the easiest drive between the airport and the mountain resort — about two and a half hours (see map) — and it’s far less likely to be affected by weather / bad roads than the much-longer drive from Calgary (around 5 hours).

PLANNING YOUR AIR TRAVEL

HEAD'S UP: You'll want to be smart and cautious about buying your airfare, so you can take advantage of the limited ground transfer options and optimize your arrival and departure days. Historically, the best time to purchase airfare for this travel period is in October or November, when fares tend to be lower than what you’ll find in the late summer months.

Tuesday, February 23
We suggest that you plan to land at Kelowna by 4 PM local time.

Sunday, February 28
We suggest that you plan to depart Kelowna after 11 AM local time.

IMPORTANT CAUTIONS AS YOU PLAN YOUR FLIGHTS

There are limited ground transfers from Kelowna to Revelstoke, and if your flight arrives late in the evening, you’ll need to rent a car or pay for a very expensive private taxi. See Ground Transfer information below.

- - - - - - - - -

Connect with the other BUMS on Facebook if you'd like to coordinate travel with others.
Transfers from the airports to our hotel are not included. You should budget about $200 CAD / $155 USD for a round-trip transfer from Kelowna.

STOKE SHUTTLE | One of the easiest and most reliable ground transfer companies is Everything Revelstoke’s Stoke Shuttle, which operates four daily departures between Kelowna International Airport and our hotel. They ask that you allow 3 hours for the trip, and therefore, you’ll want to plan your arrival and departure flights accordingly. You’ll be responsible for booking your own transfer. Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance.

IMPORTANT: View the Stoke Shuttle’s schedule or make a reservation >

RENTAL CARS | Although we won’t need cars at Revelstoke, if you’d prefer to rent a car, you might enjoy the added freedom of exploring the area — especially if you’d like to add additional days of skiing or riding at other ski resorts in interior BC or Alberta. View rental car pricing >
Revelstoke Mountain Resort is nowhere near Whistler-Blackcomb, the Canadian resort that’s most familiar to American skiers and snowboarders, which is roughly seven hours west. It’s located in interior British Columbia, where the snow is drier, the altitude is higher and the conditions are much more consistent. With an average annual snowfall of 480” (1200 cm), it enjoys plentiful powder days from December to April.

When you visit Revelstoke, you’ll notice a few things right away. Most dramatically, it’s got a huge vertical drop — the
largest in North America — at 5,620 feet. Its longest run is a whopping 9.5 miles long. But surprisingly, the ski area has very few lifts — one gondola and two high-speed chairs. And yet, they’re so well-located that the in-bounds terrain stretches more than 3,000 skiable acres. It’s big place with an awful lot of room to spread out. But it isn’t easy. Only 7% of the terrain is marked with a green circle. It’s often compared to the most challenging resorts in the USA like Jackson Hole, Alta and Snowbird.

And, similar to Alta, the base village is very basic. This is brand a new resort, so the facilities at the base are lovely, but there simply aren’t a whole lot of them. If you need a large, charming ski village to stroll through in the evenings, this isn’t the trip for you.
Come to Italy with us instead. But if you’re looking for some of the best skiing and snowboarding terrain on the planet, you’ll love Revelstoke. And best of all, you’ll get to befriend some of our most passionate skiers and snowboarders.
SKI BUMS anticipates what you'll need to know, and when you'll need to know it. We email valuable pre-trip information to all our participants, in numbered Info Packs. You'll need to receive them and read them closely, so it's crucial that you've provided an email address to us that you check regularly. Gmail users: you need to take extra steps to see our emails.

Who's coming on the trip? Find out by joining our special SKI BUMS Revelstoke Facebook Group. Whether you're simply curious about signing up or you're already on board, everyone's welcome to join this Facebook group. Feel free to invite friends, too -- it's a cool way to begin learning names of the skiers and boarders who you'll meet when we're in Canada! if you decide not to join us, we'll remove you from the group before the trip begins.

In advance of the trip, the BUMS use this group to share travel plans and coordinate meet ups for ground transfers. During and after the trip, they share pics and messages with one another. You'll see posts like "who's on the 1 PM flight through Seattle?” and "who's up for fresh tracks tomorrow?"

Of course, weather is impossible to predict, but SKI BUMS plans our trips with an eye on weather history. Snowfall at Revelstoke is most reliable from December through mid-March. The second half of February is an ideal time to enjoy peak conditions, and there's a very good chance of fresh powder snow storms during our visit. We’re basically going at the very peak of peak season.
Our rooms are guaranteed after 3 PM on Tuesday the 23rd. When you arrive, you'll simply check in at the hotel as your normally would. Please have your passport handy for identification.
Our trip officially begins with a meet & greet at 8:30 PM. This is your opportunity to meet your trip leaders, connect with your fellow BUMS, and hear cool details about what the trip has in store. We’ll have free snacks and appetizers on hand, but try to eat dinner beforehand if you can.
This trip has a minimum of 20 participants. If we fail to meet our minimum number of registered participants by 60 days before the trip, the trip may be cancelled. In that event, those who have signed up for the trip will receive a full refund.

The on-mountain adventure begins bright and early on Wednesday. We divide into skill level groups that help you identify the other skiers and snowboarders who enjoy the same terrain that you do, and then we divide and conquer the mountain!
Learn about our skill level groups. >

In general, you'll spend most of the day in a smallish group of four or five skiers or boarders -- but that's up to you. The BUMS are a social crowd, so it's always easy to find others to join in the fun.

You and your group will set your own pace, and it's common to mix it up with a few different groups throughout the week. As the trip progresses, you can explore more terrain or spend some time relaxing at the hotel or spa. This is your vacation, so you're always free to break away and do your own thing.

We meet as a group for lunches and après-ski. And for two of our evenings, we'll dine together in our lovely hotel. Other nights will be 'free nights’ for you to spend however you wish.

Prepare to bond; by the trip’s end, it'll be hard to believe that we've only spent five days together!
You must have a cell phone that will work while we are in Canada. It will need to be able to receive domestic SMS text messages, even when you are not on Wifi.

We highly recommend contacting your cell phone provider ASAP to make sure your device will work in Canada; many Sprint and Verizon phones do not work outside the USA. We advise against renting a SIM card for use while in Canada; this usually creates more problems than it solves. We recommend that you budget for an international plan that includes voice, data and SMS messaging.

Why?
Trip leaders send up-to-the-minute text message alerts with itinerary information, transportation pickup times, lunch locations, weather advisories, and more. Additionally, the other trip participants text one another to coordinate their plans on the mountain. If your phone isn’t working, you’ll be out of the loop. And if you get separated from your group or need assistance with an on-mountain injury, you’re going to need a phone that works.

View our communications guide for important information >
On the mountain: you should arrive in-country with all your skiing & snowboarding apparel. SKI BUMS requires our trip participants to wear helmets while skiing & riding. See our helpful guide, How to Dress for the Mountain, for suggestions. Revelstoke has ample gear & apparel shops, but prices will be a bit elevated, so pack wisely.

Off the mountain: all our events are casual dress. As you can pretty easily see, the BUMS are a casual, laid-back crowd; we aren't flashy. Be yourself, and be comfortable -- just as you would on any skiing / snowboarding trip.

A few vital packing tips:

+
Pack your skiing and snowboarding apparel in your carry on bag. Delayed luggage can arrive three days late; you won't want to have to buy all new stuff to make it onto the mountain.
+ Be sure to pack
winter wear shoes with a good tread; expect snowy, icy streets.
+ Don't forget
sunscreen for the high-altitude UV exposure, and a swimsuit for the hotel's pool!

SKI BUMS detailed trip itineraries are designed to be viewed on any smart phone. Additionally, our trip leaders send up-to-the-minute alerts that you'll receive on your phone via SMS text messaging. It allows us to keep you in the loop and make smart adjustments based on the weather.

For this reason, you MUST have a cell phone that will work while we're in Canada. To learn more, please see “Communication” in the Preparation section, below.
We limit the number of participants for all SKI BUMS trips. This trip is now SOLD OUT.

This trip includes two-prepaid tasty dinners at Revelstoke, on Wednesday & Saturday evenings. (We’re also hosting a complimentary welcome reception on Tuesday evening, with snacks and munchies.) Breakfasts, lunches and our other dinners are up to you. SKI BUMS always names a spot for lunch each day — an on-mountain restaurant or walk-through cafeteria — and our meals together are always a big highlight of the trip.

Because our rooms feature full kitchens, this trip offers a cool opportunity to cook for one another and host meals “at home.” Grocery delivery is available through Stoke Solutions concierge service —
We are happy to arrange roommates for you. Typically, half of our participants ask us to match them up with a roommate. We'll ask a few easy questions and accommodate your preferences.

If you prefer your own room, you may select a single occupancy. We collect the single occupancy supplement when you sign up (View "Pricing & Payment" below). Please note: there are only a small number of single occupancy slots available. Single occupancies tend to sell out very quickly.
We’ve got excellent lodging for this trip, literally at the base of the Revelstoke gondola. The ski-in, ski-out Sutton Place Hotel (formerly known as the Nelson Lodge) is a stylish, new property with all the amenities you’d hope for in a swanky ski lodge. A winner of the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, it’s got a pool & hot tub, free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, bars & restaurants, a full-service spa, and roomy accommodations.

All our rooms feature kitchens, gas fireplaces, flat-panel televisions, in-room Wi-Fi, and washers & dryers. This hotel is swanky without being stuffy, and we’ll be enjoying five restful nights here.

While in Revelstoke, most of what we’ll need is available right at the base — or easily deliverable via services like Stoke Solutions. On our free evenings, you may want to take a taxi to / from town, just a short 5-minute drive from the base lodge / hotel.

SKI BUMS recommends that you take at least one lesson each season, no matter what your skill level is. Revelstoke is an ideal spot to take one, and Thursday is probably the best day for it. If you’d like to arrange a lesson in advance, you can contact the Revelstoke Ski & Snowboarding school here. If you’d like to share an instructor with other BUMS, post a message in our Revelstoke Facebook group.
About half of our participants will rent skis or snowboards. We do NOT recommend reserving equipment in advance; despite the chance to save some money, it often locks you into a particular rental shop that may not have the specific gear you'd prefer to use. Instead, we'll encourage you to arrive at our hotel with enough time to shop around and pick up gear that suits you. The Revelstoke area has many rental shops, including one right at the base lodge.

NOTE: if you’re heli skiing / snowboarding, the package includes one day of powder equipment specifically for that day’s conditions. You will not be able to use this same equipment beyond our day in the heli.

If you want to sign up for a day in the heli with SKI BUMS, you'll need to be an expert skier or snowboarder.

One's definition of "expert" is deeply subjective, of course. For our purposes, here's what we mean:

When visiting Western North American or European resorts, no in-bounds terrain is beyond your comfort or ability level. You're very confident, even on the steepest runs. You've got excellent command no matter what the snow surface may be: deep powder, mixed crud, hardpack, or ice. You enjoy the challenge of making tight turns through trees or moguls. You've got clean, good form, you keep a quick pace, and you've got enough endurance to maintain a full day on the mountain.

Not sure if this is you?
Contact us — we’re happy to talk it through with you.
IMPORTANT NOTE: we do not permit skiers and snowboarders to arrange their own lodging and join our events without setting up a Custom Trip and pre-paying for our guided events and group meals. Custom Trip spaces are very limited. Contact us here to set up a Custom Trip >
